SIHA Integrated Approach

The Tanzanian population is increasing rapidly and having a negative? impact on health outcomes, socio-economic development and the environment.

SIHA Tanzania will utilize multisector approaches to impact on the livelihood of individuals at the household level.

For example, after a long day of looking for food and water for their families’ women have no opportunities to seek timely health care for themselves or their children.

Often overburdened with the number of children to care for, family needs and poor health these women will not need only family planning services but a comprehensive integrated package that includes food, water, sanitation, health education and household income generation in order them get out of the circle of poverty; SIHA will collaborate with local and international organizations, local government, donors and the central Government of Tanzania ministries and parastatals to implement development programs that have direct short and long-term sustainable impact at the household levels in order to improve livelihoods of women and children especially in hard to reach and poor population of Tanzania.

National Long-term goal: Tanzania development goal is to be a middle level income country by 2025 with industrialization as the main strategy.

The Government of Tanzania has deliberately initiated efforts to ensure that its citizens are benefiting from the new emerging economic opportunities such as natural gas, oil, minerals and new technologies in agriculture to improve production of both food and cash crops.

However, challenges exist that hinder attainment of the expected benefits at the household level.

Thus to support Government efforts to yield the desired results SIHA will assist families to solve some of the existing development challenges:

  • Importance of education particularly the role of girls and women as change agents for social and health development at the family levels.
  • Early health clinic attendance for expectant mothers, assisted delivery by a skilled provider and under five child health care clinic services.
  • Prevention of childhood illnesses and common diseases by adopting good health care and early health seeking behaviours.
  • Gender equality, HIV and AIDS prevention, care and treatment, reproductive health and family planning for the health benefits of the father, mother and child.
  • Improvement of household income and its distribution for the benefits of all family members.
  • Improve nutrition of the families through demonstration of preparations of a balanced diet using locally available foods especially for pregnant and lactating mothers and under-fives during their first one thousand days of their lives.
